National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management, Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T) is a national R&D and educational institute under Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India. The first convocation ceremony of NIFTEM-T was organized at the Golden Jubilee Hall of the institute on 12th May 2023. Hon’ble Minister of Food processing Industries, Government of India Shri Pashupati Kumar Paras graced the cermony as chief guest and awarded the degrees to the graduated students in their respective disciplines in the presence of Shri. Minhaj Alam, Additional secretary MoFPI, Dr. R.S. Sodhi, Chairperson of the Governing Board of NIFTEM-Tand Dr. M. Krishnan, Vice-Chancellor, Central University Tamil Nadu.
Hon’ble Minister of Food Processing Industries in his convocation address, highlighted that India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world, in which there are many investment opportunities in the food processing sector. We are the largest producer of milk, millets and livestock and second largest in total food production. In the recent years, this sector has seen higher growth and higher profits as well. Thus, increasing its contribution to the world food trade every year he added.
NIFTEM-T is coordinating with the line departments and Ministries for executing the PMFME scheme and contributing significantly in skill and technology promotion required to formalize the micro food processing industries across the country. The mission mode and societal development programmes of NIFTEM-T are highly successful and have been a model for rest of the country working on doubling the farmer’s income, he added. He also briefed the recent infrastructure and research facilities developed by the institute.
During the course of the ceremony, 50 graduates of B.Tech Food Technology, 29 Graduates of M.Tech Food Technology and 9 graduates of PhD Food Technology were awarded with the degrees upon their successful completion of their graduation. The rank holders were awarded with gold and silver medals. A meet of alumni of NIFTEM-T was organised consequent to the ceremony. Dr. S. Shanmugasundaram, Registrar delivered vote of thanks.
