TNAU celebrates World Environment Day 2023

The Department of Environmental Sciences, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University celebrated World Environment Day 2023 on 5th June in collaboration with ITC limited and Malabar gold and diamonds. 

Various events including human chain with awareness placards on “BEAT PLASTIC POLLUTION” theme, free saplings distribution to the public and students, cultural events and the students presented their thought pieces through the debate on ‘Plastics leading human society to sky or burying in the soil’ were organised. 

The debate was concluded by Dr. N. Maragatham, Dean Student’s Welfare indicating the evils of plastic pollution, the methods and necessity to avoid it.  

The “Human Chain”event was flagged by Dr. R. Tamil Vendhan, Registrar, TNAU, 

Dr. M. K. Kalarani, Director, Directorate of Crop Management, Dr. S.D. Sivakumar, PI-IDP and Dr. M. Maheswari, Professor and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, TNAU, Coimbatore. All the University Officers participated in the events and distributed fruit trees saplings to the public.

Various competitions such as poetry, plasticrafts, short film compilations, reels, meme creations and photography contests to the students across the TNAU constituent campuses were conducted online. The winners were awarded with prizes and certificates by the Registrar. The whole day events came to an end with the meaningful guest lecture entitled ‘Plastics: Next Global Emergency’ by Dr.MohseenRiazud Dean, UNDP Accelerator lab, Fiji.
