TNAU conducted Hands on training in Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis

Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology organized a four days “Hands on training in Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis” from 23-26, May 2023 at CPMB&B, TNAU, Coimbatore under Venture Capital (V 60 KE) scheme. The faculties of DPMB&B had delivered lectures and handled practical sessions on NGS data analysis. This programme enlightened faculty/scientists, students of UG/PG/PhD from TNAU and other institutions in Life Science stream on the whole genome sequencing data analysis and interpretations. 

Totally twenty five participants from different disciplines such as Genetic Engineering, Biotechnology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Plant Physiology, Agriculture and Microbiology were participated in this training programme which includes scientists/students of constituent colleges of TNAU, Indian Institute of Rice Research, Hyderabad, Periyar University, Salem, Rasi Seeds Pvt Ltd, Salem, CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (CSIR-NIO), Goa,  VIT University, Vellore, Kaveri Seeds Pvt Ltd, Hyderabad, Annamalai University, Chidambaram, The MaharjaSayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat, Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Anurag University, Hayathnagar, Telangana, Kumaraguru Institute of Agriculture, Erode, Sri Krishna Arts and Science College, Coimbatore and TNAU, Coimbatore.

The training program was inaugurated with welcome address by Dr.E.Kokiladevi, Professor and Head (Biotech), TNAU and presided by Dr.N.Senthil, Director (CPMB&B) and special address given by Dr.R.Umarani, Director, Seed Centre. Formal Vote of thanks was proposed by the Programme coordinator Dr.M.Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor, DPMB&B.  Hands on training was arranged to learn genomics databases, linux command, pre-processing of genomics data, WGS assembly and annotations, SNP calling and annotation, comparative genomics etc.The valedictory session was scheduled on 26.05.2023. 

The valedictory session started with welcome address by Dr.E.Kokiladevi, Professor and Head (Biotech) and training report presented by Dr.M.Jayakanthan, Assistant Professor (DPMB&B). Valedictory address was delivered by Dr.N.Senthil, Director CPMB&B followed with felicitation by Dr.M.Shanthi, Director, Centre for Plant Protection Studies, TNAU. The participants were provided feedback about the training and it was well received. The formal Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. N. Bharathi, Assistant Professor, DPMB&B.
