World Environment Day outreach programme held at Ramanathapuram

Central Bureau of Communication Field Office Ramanathapuram under Union Information Broadcasting Ministry organised World Environment Day Outreach Programme at Government ITI Ramanathapuram on June 5.

Field Publicity Assistant Thanjavur Mr. K Ravindran welcomed the gathering. He thanked Government ITI Ramanathapuram for coordinating with CBC Field office Tiruchirapalli and Thanjavur in organising the outreach programme.

Field publicity Officer Tiruchirapalli Mr. K Devi Padmanabhan in his introductory address said that world environment Day is organised all over the world under the auspices of United Nations from 1973 onwards. He pointed out that Beat Plastic Pollution is the theme for environment Day this year. He urged students to avoid one time use plastics and create awareness among public about harmful effects of plastics. He pointed out that more than 40 crore tonne plastic waste is generated daily all around the world which is affecting environment badly. He urged students to carry cloth bags for shopping so that one time use plastic covers can be avoided. He spoke about Swachh Bharat Abhiyan central government schemes which has become people’s movement. Waste should be segregated as biodegradable and non-biodegradable so that it won’t affect environment.

Ramanathapuram Government ITI Principal Mr. V Kumaravel in his presidential address said that world environment day is celebrating its 50 years since inception by UN. He urged students to avoid usage of plastics and help in safeguarding environment. He pointed out that Govt ITI is green campus with lot of trees grown under CRS and government schemes. He urged students to utilise the information gathered on environment and create awareness among public.

Ramanathapuram District Forest Officer Ms. S Hemalatha in her chief guest address stressed on harmful effects of plastic on environment. She spoke about importance of World Environment Day and how it is celebrated all over the world under United Nations. She urged students even though plastic is one of the most wonderful invention one time use plastic affects environment badly. She pointed out the importance of forests in safeguarding environment and ecosystem. She urged students to plant saplings and help in afforestation.

Ramanathapuram district SBM Coordinator Mr. S Navaneethan in his special address said that under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan toilets have been provided and villages have become 100 per cent ODF free. He urged people to segregate waste while giving to tuymai kavalars so that it will be easy to dispose waste.

Environment Day Mission Life pledge was taken with students. The Pledge promised to make changes in daily life to protect environment and motivate about environmentally friendly activities.. Pamphlets and notices on Mission Life and 9 years of central government were distributed. 

Prizes were given to students who won in various competitions like elocution painting essay writing on Environment and plastic usage prevention. Government ITI Assistant Trainers and NSS officers Mr. M Dravidamani Mr. U Muthu rendered felicitations. Mr. Mangaleswaran  of Govt ITI rendered vote of thanks. Earlier Selvarani Kalai Kuzhu registered troupe under Song and Drama division performed in Ramanathapuram Bus stand and Railway station and created awareness about Environment day and avoiding plastic usage. Pamphlets and notices on Environment Mission Life and Central government schemes were[WU1]  distributed.
