Meenakshi Mission Hospital Conducts One-Day State Level Conference on Haematology

Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC) organised Haematology Update 2024, a state-level conference for practising physicians, paediatricians, gynaecologists and post graduate medical students on haematology, a speciality that deals with diseases of the blood. 


The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Dharmaraj, Dean of Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital, Dr. Natarajan, GRH, Dr. Jawahar, Indian Association of Paediatrics Council of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of the top consultants of MMHRC: Dr. Ramesh Ardhanari, Medical Director Dr. Kannan, Medical Administrator and Dr. Anand Selva Kumar, IMA- Secretary. Over 400 medical professionals and students from across the state took part in the event which also featured a quiz programme for the PG students.


Experts who spoke at the conference included professionals from all over the India. The talks and discussions were focused on various blood disorders such as the cancers of the blood: leukaemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma, and inherited blood disorders such as thalassaemia, aplastic anaemia, and primary immune deficiency.


Dr. Kasi Vishwanathan, HOD, Department of Hemato-Oncology, emphasized that  the subject of bone marrow transplantations, the only curative treatment for certain blood disorders and blood cancers.


He also said that, "Meenakshi Mission Hospital had conducted over 400 bone marrow transplants so far, of which about 50% has been done under Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme, Government of Tamil Nadu."
