The "Life Insurance Awareness Program and Job Opportunities in LIC as an Agent through the Mahila Scheme" was successfully organized on 28.8.2024 at our Research and Extension campus, Madurai followed by a significant tree plantation drive sponsored by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India by the Department of Commerce and Computer Science together. The program aimed to educate participants about the importance of life insurance and to explore employment opportunities for women under LIC's Mahila Scheme, with a strong emphasis on financial independence and environmental sustainability.

Opening Session: Welcoming and Addressing the Audience

The event commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Dr.S.Valli Devasena Assistant Professor in Commerce. In their opening remarks, she expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university, who could not attend, and extended a heartfelt welcome to the Chief Guest, S. Premchandran the Branch Manager of LIC. The welcome address also acknowledged the presence of the Director, faculty members, students, and office staff. The absence of the Head of the Department, who was at the headquarters, was also noted.

Life Insurance Awareness Session

The first segment of the program focused on creating awareness about life insurance. The Chief Guest, the Branch Manager of LIC, delivered an informative presentation highlighting the significance of life insurance in today's world. They explained how life insurance provides financial security to families in the event of an unforeseen tragedy, offering protection, savings, and investment opportunities. The presentation covered various types of life insurance policies offered by LIC, such as term insurance, endowment plans, and ULIPs, emphasizing the need for every individual, especially women, to have adequate insurance coverage.

The audience was made aware of the misconceptions and myths surrounding life insurance, such as the belief that life insurance is only for the elderly or those with dependents. The Branch Manager provided real-life examples to illustrate the benefits of starting a life insurance policy early in life, encouraging participants to plan for a secure future.

Job Opportunities through LIC’s Mahila Scheme

The second segment of the program focused on job opportunities available through LIC's Mahila Scheme, specifically targeting women who aspire to become independent and self-reliant. The Chief Guest introduced the LIC Mahila Scheme, which empowers women by providing them with the opportunity to work as agents, earn a substantial income, and contribute to their households. The scheme offers flexible working hours, allowing women to balance their professional and personal lives effectively.

The presentation covered the eligibility criteria, training provided, and the benefits of becoming an LIC agent under the Mahila Scheme. The audience was informed about the potential for earning commissions, incentives, and bonuses, along with the long-term career growth prospects in the insurance sector. Several success stories of women who have achieved financial independence by becoming LIC agents were shared, inspiring many participants to consider this career path.

Tree Plantation Drive: Promoting Sustainability

The event culminated in a tree plantation drive on the campus, sponsored by LIC as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative. A total of 250 tree saplings were planted by students, faculty members, and LIC representatives. The saplings were chosen carefully to ensure they were native species that would thrive in the local environment. Additionally, the saplings were distributed among students to plant at their homes, promoting the message of environmental conservation beyond the campus.

The plantation drive not only highlighted the importance of sustainability but also emphasized the role of each individual in contributing to a greener planet. The Branch Manager of LIC addressed the gathering, expressing LIC's commitment to environmental causes and encouraging everyone to take small steps toward protecting nature.
