Lady Doak College, Madurai, organized a one-day leadership programme titled ‘Equipping the Called’ (Phase – I) on 05.08.2024. The event had the participation of around 163 student leaders, including student cabinet leaders, class representatives, club presidents, and residential hall presidents. The programme began with a prayer song by CFM students, followed by a prayer led by Ms. Getzie Daniela, SCM President of the Student Cabinet. Dr. R. Beulah Jeyashree, Principal and Secretary, delivered the introductory remarks, emphasizing that all office bearers are chosen leaders equipped with valuable resources.
Ms. Keerthi Latha R., Vice-President (Aided ) of the Student Cabinet, welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Beulah Jeyashree, the Principal & Secretary, Lady Doak College then presented the mementos to the chief guests, Rev. Fr. Dr. Godwin Rufus S.J., and Dr. Aloysius Albert S. Ms. Shreya J.G., Vice-President (SF) of the Student Cabinet, introduced the resource person, Rev. Fr. Dr. Godwin Rufus S.J., Principal of St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Godwin Rufus S.J. conducted an engaging and interactive session on "Holistic Development as the Cornerstone for Grooming Leaders," explaining how to foster leadership qualities. He emphasized the importance of remembering and learning from the past without dwelling on it. Key areas of leadership discussed included authenticity, belief, continuity or change, and dignity.
Ms. Suruthi D., Eco-initiative Secretary of the Student Cabinet, introduced the next resource person, Dr. Aloysius Albert S., Dean of Arts and Assistant Professor of English at St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai. Dr. Albert shared his insights on "Leadership in Academia: Perspective and Prospective," and conducted an interactive game. He discussed the different types of leaders in Gen Z and Alpha Gen.
Rev. Fr. Dr. Godwin Rufus S.J. concluded the programme with a talk on leadership skills and task management, using short films and examples from the animal kingdom to illustrate his points. The event was organized by the Deans of Student Affairs, Dr. S. Arockia Shyamala & Dr. T. Mowna Sundari, and by the Assistant Deans of Student Affairs, Dr. P. Jullie Prathiba, & Dr. C. Esther Elizabeth Grace.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Shenbaga Harishni R., President of the Student Cabinet.
